Evaluation Q.3/4: What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? How will you attract.addresds your audience?

This is a video which i posted from Youtube. The film is a hit with 11,705 views which shows that it appealed to the intended audience. The film clearly shows that low-budget films can achieve some sort of success if executed correctly. In addition, with the limited use of special effects in the film, and obviously the low budget it is even harder to make it a success.
Working Title 2 would be the perfect company to distribute our film. Youtube would be one of our main source of promotion. This is used by millions everyday so we have a high possibility of attaining hits. Moreover, websites such as Facebook, Twitter, Myspace etc. Are very popular amongst our target audience: Teenagers. These would be the other main source of promotion for our Thriller Movie.

5) Who would be the audience for your media product?

Our main target audience for 'Ebony Stone' would be the teenage group. Since our film already includes teenagers, this would appeal to them becasue there is nothing unusual or new unlike other films which would include adults. Moreover, a lifestyle summary of a typical teenager could be someone like Lewis. He is a London based sixth-former who enjoys nothing more than hanging out with his mates and having a laugh by going places of interest such as cinemas, bowling alleys, West End etc. He owns a Blackberry phone which is very very popular amongst teenagers at the moment and is seen as a fashion now. He has an oyster card to get around places but mainly from home to college. On the way, he listens to his iPod which is filled with Grime, Hip-Hop, Slow-jams. Being amongst the ladies, he needs his breath to be smelling fresh so he always carries a packet of Extra Freegum. Keys he requires to get home (especially after a long night out), and his cash and cards are stashed in his Wallet.

Evaluation Q.1 In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

e opening of our title sequence and The Shining title sequence is similar as they both have many establishing shots to set the location. Moreover, our sequence shows the location to be a nice, modern setting where it seems 'jolly' and 'cool'. However, the story which follows is nothing like this which is a direct comparison to The Shining where the opening sequence shows beautiful mountain roads and a natural setting which also seems positive but we know that the story line does not support this.

Evaluation Q.7 Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Since our preliminary task which involved us filming someone walking through a door. Back then we realised that the lighting was dark so the filming wasnt clear also our tripod wasnt stable which resulted the shot to be uneven. Comparing to the shot in our final production which also involved someone walking through a door we now have realised how to make the shot clearer and so we made the shot even better by better lighting, the tripod in a stable position.







The match cut preliminary task also involved an over the shoulder shot however we found that there was too much empty space in the frame. In addition, our final production, there was another over the shoulder shot which was very similar to our preliminary task. But now, we made sure the frame was equal and there was no empty spaces, and the intention was focused on what was happening.

EVALUATION: 2) How does your media product represent paricular social groups?

One of the two main characters named 'Stone' is a typical street thug who is mentally depressed at the fact that he has been left by his girlfreind Ebony, of whom he has an extreme obsession over. The character's costume consists of hoodies and tracksuits which is typical of a majority of teenagers growing up in London. He is seen during the opening rolling a rizla and has a cigarette on his ear; depicting that he is a heavy smoker.

Stone could be compared to one of the characters of the movie 'Adulthood'. His name is Jay, played by Adam Deacon. He is a rebellious character who is out for revenge against another character, the costume that he wears is a direct portryal of our character Stone and his body language is very similar.

Skills Audit: LiveType

Livetype is a program which allowed us to create texts and titles for our thriller opening.

With a large range of fonts and special effects which can be used with the desired font, we were able to choose what colour we wanted our text to be, the size, shadows, saturation etc.

Just like Final Cut & Soundtrack Pro, there is a timeline and here we can choose which text to appear when we want to.

Skills Audit: Final Cut Pro

'Final Cut Pro' was our main resource to edit our clips. With this, we created a timeline of clips by choosing which one goes where.

Final Cut allows us to add effect to our clips and make them to a high quality standard by adding things such as 'in and out points', which determine when a clip starts and stops.

Skills Audit: Soundtrack Pro

For our soundtrack composition, we used the program 'Soundtrack Pro'. This program allowed us to compose various types of sounds from a wide range of resources readily available in the program.

We were able to grab any form of sound effects, from standard instruments such as drums and violins to more explicit sounds such as an explosion or gun shots and make it work into a complete soundtrack.
Other techniques I learnt was to fade sounds into one another and vary the length of sounds.

Location Shots

This is one of the locations from our thriller opening: Greenwich Tunnel. The Tunnel is very enclosed and quiet claustrophobic which all adds up to create a perfect thriller scene. With no where to go apart from a long distance walk to the end, the tunnel was just perfect for the capture of 'Ebony'.

In the match cut exercise we could of improved it by:

Change the lighting in the first shotThere is a jump cut off the person walking through the room

Should of change the camera distance

There is not an equal distance between both sides of the shot eg too much blind space

Shot has to be a 1/3 of the eye level

However, we have used over the shoulder shot effectively.

The Art of the Title Sequence

Being one of my favorite films, '300' was originally a comic and so the whole film was created to be as close as possible to the same comic format. The location the filme created by CGI, in a studio, to create the comic effect. The pictures as you can see are all cartoons along with the font which is the exact same style found in a majority of comic books. Blood is something which is emphasised throughout this title sequence and the main title itself is written in a blood style font with a black background to portray the darkness in this film. In addition, the cartoon figures in the title sequence are all pitch black with no attention to detail or colour whereas the only colour is in the background and the colour red for the blood.

The title sequence appealed to me becasue its very fast paced and gives a rough idea of how the film is, having watched it myself I would say it does this to a good standard.

Match Cut Prelim

Story board- Aylin the main character is a bully who enteres the room, where her class mate is sitting doing her work. As soon as Aylin enteres the room her class mate stops her work and immediately turns away from her work and looks at Aylin. Aylin walks in very slowly and sits next to he frigtented class mate, which she then chucks her work onto the floor and asks her to pick it up. Her class mates feels intimidated and reacts to Aylins intructions.

The match cut we used was when aylin walks into the room and we get a match cut of her class mates reaction.

MATCH CUT: Technical term for when a director cuts from one scene to a totally different one, but has objects in the two scenes "matched," so that they occupy the same place in the shot's frame

Skills Audit Soundtrack

By using Soundtrack Pro, I created a timeline of different sounds and effects to create my desired sequence. Moreover, by selecting different styles of sounds on the search engine in Soundtrack Pro, managed to find various forms of sounds from guns cocking to an airplane taking off. I selected for the start a gun to cock back and then shoot, this sound was then followed by a hip-hop beat which carried on to then be overlapped by sound of a war siren. This all made up to be a sinister type of sound.

My most enjoyable genre is the action thriller as it is a theme which I watch mostly because of its fast pace, upfront action.

Definition Of Suspense

Suspense is a feeling of excitement, adrenaline and uncertainty. This happens when one is unsure about the outcome of most actions, which is largely related to an event or dramatic tension which occurs in dramas, films etc.
