Suspense: Deja Vu Analysis

Suspense was created by the soundtrack and camera.
Violins were being played in the background at a fast-paced rythm.
The suspense is mainly created when the man tries to open the car when he hears music coming from inside as this is mysterious, he also realises the keys are in the car. Another expected thing is that the car doesnt have a plate. Two events are going on as it shows happy people in the boat whilst it is quiet when the man is next to car. This creates suspense in the audience as you know something bad is going to happen. Camera is used to create suspense when the main is looking through the car window and there is a shot reverse shot when he realises the petrol cans in the car, without any time a huge explosion occurs in the boat and their are people flying out into the sea.

Definition of Suspense

Suspense is when you have mental uncertainty eg excitement as you are left thinking what is going to happen next as this creates anxiety in the audience.
Suspense is commonly used in thriller films as this engages the audience to watch the movie.

List of Thriller Sub-genres

Thriller Sub-genres:
  1. Action

  3. Horror
  4. Psychological

Action thrillers inspires me the most because it involves guns, cars and the conflict between people eg good and bad. It is also fast-paced which I like as it makes me think what it going to happen next and creates suspense throughout the film.

List of Thrillers sub-genres

Thriller films cover a variety of sub genres such as:
· Action
· Psychological
· Political
· Horror
· Sci- fi
· Supernatural

Action thrillers inspire me at the moment, as these thrillers tend to consist of blood and guns and the latest car and gadget. There’s also a story line about how someone got murdered or vanished. This creates suspense and sometimes it consists of bad people verses the good people, which creates conflict and adds to the suspense.

Suspense- Déjà vu Analysis

The suspense was created by the way the soundtrack and props were used.
For example violins were being played in the background at a steady speed as the sailors walked, the props used here was the sailors outfits which outlined that they were sailors, we clearly know that the boat is being used for a party as the captain looks at his watch then says “can’t believe it their right on time”, then somebody else replies “ let’s get these boys to their party”.
The suspense is created when the main in the green tries to open the car but the keys are inside the cars, this keeps the audience apprehensive to find out why is the keys inside the car, and whether or not he’s going to open it.
The shot reverse shot of the petrol cans and the man looking into the car , and the happy atmosphere of families gathered together on the boat, then BOMB!... Questions are automatically arise to how the bomb got there and why, and as it’s the beginning 5minutes this engages the audience, to find out what happens after.

Definition of suspense

This term is identified is used to describe, a situation or something or someone occurring or happening, which brings anxiety and leaves you apprehensive about what is going to happen next.
There’s a lot of suspense used in thriller and horror movies, as this engages the audience to wait and watch what happens. The suspense keeps the audience watching the movie.

Confusion

As you can see, we tried to show 'Confusion' and so we found the perfect scene in the notice board. With so many leaflets and notices all stacked up next to each other, we thought this can be confusing for many people walking past it.
We also agreed for me to be appearing to 'scratch' my head which is a stereotypical action for confusion and so this is what completes the picture.

Happiness

Happiness-
Through this image I tried to create a image which would show happiness, through my facial expression and the body language. Clearly from this image you can see this character smiling as you see teeth and big grins. Body language also shows she's happy.
As this shot was taken without the character knowing a photo was taken off her, it brings out the reality and how she's really happy with what she has done.
The purpose of today was to create images which shows connections between emotion using a camera.

Mystery

This photograph shows two people involved in a mysterious situation, where each person is looking at different directions. The way the two people are set within the environment emphases a mysterious effect in the picture. The level set in the picture of the two people placed in a high and low angle can show difficulty and confusion with what both people are looking at therefore once again creates a mysterious tension. The frame is based within dark and dull colours being various tones of black, brown and cream this reinforces the face expressions of the two people and helps to show interest displayed in the picture. A medium close up was chosen to be used in this shot which furthermore helps to portray the purpose of the scene. The identified design of the walls being increasing horizontal lines widening almost outside the picture is a clear depiction of mystery as this can link in the mysterious direction the two people are staring intently at. The two people centred in the picture surrounded with the walls can show entrapment and anxiety which therefore leaves us with a considerable state of curiosity and mystery.

Depression

This picture shows depression as two people are bent down. I tried to create an image of depression by body language/position and facial expression. As one person is positioned facing forwards and I am positioned facing the opposite way to the camera. We decided for one person to cross their arms and the other person to cover their face this helped to create an image of depression.

Media Skills Audit and Editing

I used Final Cut Pro in Bait Tutorial.
First I opened a clip from the browser and put in & out points.
I dragged clips onto the timeline as I had to cut parts of it to put it together.
I learned how to use the razor tool and how to build a sequence on the timeline.

AS media skills Audit editing

Today in lessons I learnt how to use final cut pro. The first thing i did was i opened up the final cut pro software.
Then i opened the document called BAIT Tutorial.
There was a lot of shot clips ready for editing.
I opened up one of the clips and put a in & out point , so i knew which bits i wanted to keep and which bits i wanted to take out for my final editing.
With the clips I editing using my in and out points they automatically got placed on to the timeline, this helped me to concentrate on the lengh of my clip.
I also learned how to use raxor tool which allowed me to put a clip on another.
I managed to make a little clip, unfortunately the computer didn't allow me to upload.

Skills Audit Editing

I've learned to edit several clips extracted from the movie 'Bait'.
To start off with I learned to use 'in and out' points which determine when the clip starts and finishes.
I also learned to use the razor tool to build a sequence on the time line.

I successfully put together 3 clips to create a sequence.
